How does a 5 month old learn how to scream so soon? Makayla thinks playing with her voice is the funnest thing ever. She sits and screams all day, and has seriously almost lost her voice a couple of times! I have to admit I laugh a little, but after an hour, it gets kinda stale. Also, on the poop issue. I found an article online about a condition called Grunting Baby Syndrome, and it is when babies grunt and push and change color to poop, and they either don't poop at all, or have an extremely soft bowel movement. This is my Makayla! It said in the article that parents often think that the baby is constipated, and report that to the doctor who then teaches them the stimulation technique. This is us! Then it said that this is the worst thing you can do because they then become dependent on the stimulation to poop. The problem is that they don't know how to work the muscles of the pelvic floor and the sphincters in order to poop. They try and try, but can't. You MUST leave the baby alone and not help in any way so they figure it out. I stopped helping Makayla and have given her Miralax to help and she has pooped twice now on her own. Lets hope this is the right thing to do, I feel so bad and know she is uncomfortable, but I truly think this might be the answer. I will keep you posted.
